Can I use Flamenco Gel in an
unvented fireplace?
Yes! Flamenco Gel is now made using 100% corn-derived ethanol. This new petroleum-free formulation burns clean, so you have the option to leave the damper closed in a vented fireplace, or use in an unvented fire chamber that conforms to building codes for solid-fuel burning. Vent-free usage has the added benefit of reduced energy costs, as the heated air in your home is not allowed to escape up the chimney.
Are you sure it’s safe to burn
pure ethanol fuel in my home?
Absolutely! If you’ve ever used chafing dishes heated by a Sterno fuel can, then you are already accustomed to burning ethanol gel in your home. The only difference is that Flamenco Gel comes in pourable liquid form, whereas Sterno gel is solid.
Vent-free gas logsets typically require an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS). Is it necessary to purchase an ODS to use with the Flamenco?
No! Due to the limited size of the fuel reservoir in the Flamenco Logset, you don’t have to worry about the oxygen content in your room reaching unacceptable levels.
For any room size, the quantity of oxygen consumed by Flamenco’s gel tray is negligible.
By contrast, the large fuel tanks of propane gas logsets allow many hours of burn-time, even when unattended, creating the potential for unsafe conditions. And natural gas supply lines are unlimited.
