Flamenco® Gel Fireplace Log Set:
Assembly, Use and Maintenance

Congratulations on acquiring a Flamenco® Gel Log Set. The patented design gives you a beautiful, dancing flame using a renewable organic fuel. Please follow these instructions and keep this guide for future reference.

This product is designed for wood burning fireplaces. Do not use in gas fireplaces or in woodstoves. When burning Flamenco Gel, have your damper partly or fully open. After the flame is fully extinguished using the snuffer, you may close your damper.

Parts are hot, so use the Flamenco tool. A special tool makes using your Flamenco easy and safe. Metal parts become very hot and remain hot after extinguishing the fire. Don’t touch the log set or allow children or pets near it. As with wood fires, keep clothing and other combustibles away.

Use only proper gel. This product is designed to operate best with Flamenco® Fireplace Log Set Gel. Certain other brands of gelled alcohol may produce satisfactory results.

Use of any other fuel except gelled alcohol is expressly prohibited, automatically voids warranties, and is dangerous. Never burn a liquid fuel of any kind, or any solid fuel, in this product. Parts List

How to install the Fireplace Log Set in your fireplace

Please note: The exterior of the decorative ceramic logs can be easily marred or damaged during installation. Please handle them gently and be careful with tools and other hard objects around them.

Assembly is very simple, with only a Phillips head screwdriver required. First, take the Metal Grate (a) and place it on a convenient hard work surface. The horizontal legs are at the back of the grate and the gel box and vertical legs are at the front. Now take the Rear Ceramic Log (d) and place it between the two rear upright posts and the flame controller. The “bark side” of the rear log should face forward toward the front bars of the grate. Tighten the two bolts in back of the upright posts until they are snug against the rear log. Do not over-tighten these bolts, as damage to the log may occur. Place the grate with the rear log into your fireplace with its horizontal legs facing the rear. Tip the top section of the grate back to the fully open position. Adjust the placement in your fireplace so the rear log doesn’t hit or scrape the sides or back of the fireplace. Now return the top section to the closed position.

Next, place the Front Log (e) over the pegs in front of the flame controller, “bark side” facing the room. The Ember Log (f) may now be placed in front of the Gel Box. Your Flamenco Gel Log Set is now ready to use.

If you have chosen the optional Decorative Branch (g), it should not be placed onto the Logset until after the fire is lit, and should be removed each time before the grate is opened.

Using your Log Set

Starting a fire is very simple. Gel should always be put in the bottom gel box with the logs tilted back. Light the fire, and then rotate the logs down over the Gel Box – using your Flamenco Tool.

Your Flamenco tool has a peg on the end that is used to open and close the grate, adjust the fire, and place the snuffer to extinguish the fire. To open or close the grate, locate the Lifting Rings on the front lower corners of the top grate section. Use whichever of the rings is most comfortable for you to raise and lower the grate. Gently tilt the top log-and- grate assembly all the way back to a vertical position.

In this open position, the exposed gel box is ready to load. Squeeze Flamenco Fireplace Log Set Gel into the box, but never higher than one-half inch below the upper edge of the box. Wipe up any spilled gel before igniting.

Flamenco gel isn’t “explosive” like gas. You can light it with any match or lighter. The gel will take a few minutes to make a “brisk” fire even after it’s lit. The gel takes a little while to vaporize and to create the beautiful dancing flames.

Once it’s burning, go ahead and lower the logs over the gel box, using your Flamenco tool. Once the flame controller is in place over the fuel tray, it will take a few minutes for the controller to heat up and give you the full effect of the fire. Once the fire stabilizes at full height, use your Flamenco Tool to adjust the intensity and height of the burning flames.

Adjusting the Flame Controller The patented flame controller makes the flames leap and dance in a fascinating random pattern. It also has a mechanism that allows you to adjust the height of the flames. To activate the mechanism, take your Flamenco tool and put the peg in the Control Ring on the left side. Pushing the ring away from you increases the intensity of the flames. Pulling the ring toward you decreases flame intensity and conserves fuel.

Snuffing the fire

The flame controller doesn’t put out the fire, even when pulled forward to its maximum closed position. To extinguish the fire, you must use the Snuffer.

Using the Flamenco tool, tilt the logs back into the fully open position. Use the Flamenco Tool to lift the Snuffer by its center ring and place it over the flaming gel box.

The Snuffer must remain over the gel box several minutes to assure the vapor has settled. Wait at least 15 minutes before relighting the gel or adding additional gel.

It is okay to lower the logs down over the Snuffer. Unburned gel eventually evaporates if left uncovered, so keeping the Snuffer on top of the fuel box conserves fuel.

Maintaining the Fireplace Log Set

Gel Box

Some gel fuels leave a residue when allowed to burn out naturally. It’s okay to pour fresh fuel on top of the residue, as much of it will burn away during your next fire. Also, unburned gel may evaporate to a rubbery solid. Over time if residue builds up excessively, remove the gel box and scrape it out with a putty knife. Take care not to damage the gel box, and replace it if there are any cracks or holes. Soot Soot is black carbon, from impurities in fuel. For best results, use only Flamenco Logset Gel, as it is specially formulated to produce very little soot. If soot does form on the ceramic logs, you can vacuum it off with your vacuum’s brush attachment or gently with a soft bristled brush. Some people like a slight soot build up, which replicates the look of real wood logs.

Ceramic Logs

Clean only with a soft brush. Don’t wash in water. Avoid hard scrubbing as this may remove the logs’ coloration.

Flame Controller Gasket

The bottom of the flame controller uses a fiberglass gasket to ensure a good seal between it and the gel box. Check the gasket regularly for wear or fraying. It’s important for maintaining an even fire and regulating fuel consumption. To replace the gasket you can use standard woodstove gaskets and cements available from specialty hearth retailers, or for best results use a Flamenco replacement gasket kit from your dealer or from the manufacturer.
